Samurai Jeans S003JP 15th Anniversary (1 Year, 1 Wash, 1 Soak)

It’s time for Fade Friday, and this time we’ve got one beat-to-heck pair of Samurai Jeans S003JPs to show you, submitted to us by Witsarut Pum-In from Thailand. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because this isn’t the first time Witsarut has blown us away with some denim evolution (see his The Flat Head jacket) and he’s showing no sign of slowing down his indigo-infused lifestyle any time soon.

Witsarut is a man of few words and tends to let the fades speak for themselves. All we know about these jeans is that he’s worn them daily for the last year and only given them one wash and one soak thus far. In doing so, he has retained a ton of indigo in the less-exposed areas, making his fades super contrasty and rich in tone.

Textbook thigh fades are matched perfectly with tightly formed honeycombs, back pocket puckering, and concealed rivets that are wearing through. Though the cuffs show signs of needing a repair job soon, these Samurais look to be in pretty good shape and we wouldn’t be surprised if Witsarut kept them going strong for years to come yet.

You can find out by giving Witsarut a follow on Instagram.

Join the kakishibu clan while keeping your indigo heart beating with the Pure Blue Japan PER-EX-003-ID Regular Straight 15oz. Indigo x Persimmon Extra Slub Denim. The 003 cut is rare ’round these parts. Normally PBJ’s 019 and 013 are the cuts you see offered most on our side of the planet. But some of us like a roomier leg! The 003 is not to be skipped over if you like a more full cut on your jeans, and from PBJ you know it’s going to be an interesting fabric!

The denim in question here is an indigo warp, kakishibu (persimmon dye) weft, which is already incredibly interesting in terms of fading/aging potential. This unique dye paring has been applied to PBJ’s revered EX slubby fabric, and damn, these are simply incredibly to look at. Rare PBJ cut meets rare PBJ fabric!

The PER-EX-003-ID is pretty straightforward in design: Five pockets, contrast stitching throughout, rivet reinforcements, bartack embroidered seam reinforcements, PBJ’s signature indigo leaf back pocket embroidery and cerulean blue selvedge ID, and a buttery soft deerskin leather patch. They’re rinsed once to eliminate any excess shrinkage, too, so you’re free to take your normal, comfortable PBJ size.

Available for $430 from Franklin & Poe.

Knickerbocker Bay Waxed Cotton & Nylon Jacket

If there was ever a time for a waxed jacket, it would be now. Thankfully Knickerbocker is right on cue with its Bay Waxed Cotton & Nylon Jacket. As with most in its field, of course, there is going to be some Barbour inspiration going on but K does a great job paying homage while doing its own thing. Made from a water and wind-repellant brushed cotton and nylon cloth at Olmetex, an expert technical fabric manufacturer over in Italy, you can rest easy knowing this shell has what it takes to keep you protected.

With a signature woven cotton plaid liner and satin-lined sleeves, the jacket perfectly captures the rugged elegance that makes waxed jackets a timeless option.

Closed out with a snap front and 2-way zip in addition to all the cool details that you could ever want like a corduroy collar and chest pockets galore, you know you have a good one on your hands when you look forward to bad weather to put it to the test in.

Available for $495 from Knickerbocker.

Iron Heart makes almost any cut of denim look and feel more tough. Case in point, the 777s-UHR 21/23oz. Ultra Heavy Raw Selvedge Denim Slim Tapered Cut Jeans. These slim-tapered fit jeans aren’t just a nicely cut, fitted pair of jeans, they’re functional and long-lasting — thanks to Iron Heart’s proprietary denim that is 21 oz. per square yard when raw, gaining weight to 23 oz. when rinsed or washed.

Other than the 634, all of Iron Heart’s cuts are pretty slim. The 777 is for those of you who want a low-to-mid rise, but a more tapered leg. It’s the brand’s slimmest cut and one that will offer some pretty dramatic fades, especially when you consider the abrasion that will come with this hefty Japanese selvedge fabric.

Heavy-duty denim meets heavy-duty details in Iron Heart jeans: Branded metal button fly, heavy gauge poly/cotton contrast stitching throughout, bar tack reinforcements, hidden rivets, red selvedge ID, chainstitched yoke and hems, and a heavy duty IH branded leather patch. All made in Japan, ready to ride into your rotation.

Available for $395 from Iron Heart.
