Giveaway - One of a Kind Crown Northampton Sneaker in Horween Leather from 1949

Enter your email here to win a truly unique shoe that will never be made again

There are many “rare goods” in the world of vintage and high quality clothing, but it’s truly unique when you can say something is one-of-a-kind. Such is the case with our latest giveaway item, a one-of-one Crown Northampton Harlestone sneaker made in your size from deadstock 75-year-old Horween calfskin that was unearthed in their Chicago tannery.

And you can win it just by entering your email here.

As we wrote in our recent profile, Crown Northampton is an English shoemaker dedicated to making sneakers with the same techniques and standards you’d find in end-level dress shoes. Their shoes are handsewn, resoleable, and made with high-end leathers including Horween Shell Cordovan.

Earlier this year, Chris, Crown Northampton’s fifth-generation owner, was on a trip to check in with Skip, Horween’s fourth-generation president, when he noticed a calfskin hide that caught his eye. The leather was from 1949 and Horween’s last surviving skin of their “Woodland” tannage.

Horween’s informational materials from 1949 on their “Timber Tanned” Woodland leather.

According to their informational materials at the time,

The grain is smooth, strong and flat. The feel is soft and mellow but properly full. Timber Tanned leathers do not expand or contract with temperature and humidity changes.

Porosity permits perspiration to evaporate, keeping the foot warm in winter, cool in summer. Special fat liquors and dyes drive away water when in contact with the leather’s surface. The foot is thus ventilated and at the same time protected from ordinary wet weather.

Sounds ideal and due for a comeback! Chris had to have the leather, but knew one hide was only enough to produce two pairs of shoes:  one to test and see if this three-quarter of a century old would hold up and one for a very lucky individual. The test pair is the one you see in the images above, the second pair could be yours if you enter your email at the link below.
