Homemade Braided Selvedge Denim Rug (8 Years)

If your denim believes in reincarnation, after its suffered its last rip, tear or blow out, the dream new life might be with Jesse up in Calgary, Canada. Well, as long as they don’t mind being stepped on.

We’re not worthy of Jesse because they’ve been making their own jean for years. After wearing a few pairs into the ground, they decided they hadn’t gone through enough punishment and repurposed them into the coolest braided rug. Composed of a pair of 16 oz. Cone denim, 13 oz. Cone denim, and what they thinks could be 12 oz. Candiani Mills, their masterful efforts have resulted in a 24″ x 29″ oval rug, stitched down onto a twill backing and then secured with rubber.

If we are talking fade inception this rug right here is the embodiment. Not only were the jeans faded up when they were being worn, for the last 8 years this killer denim graveyard has garnered even more layers of wear. Fades on fades.

Roll hard with the Malloch’s Newman Lambswool Roll Neck Sweater. A roll-neck sweater is an underrated piece of knitwear if there ever was one. The roll neck emerges from whatever you’ve layered it under, keeping your neck warm whilst adding a point of detail to your fits. It’s a knitwear flex for the well-informed.

These cozy-as-hell sweaters are knit from a luxuriously soft 6-ply lambswool knit at Z. Hinchliffe in Yorkshire, England, widely regarded as one of the best knitwear factories around the world. They’re thick enough to wear alone, and more than suitable for layering when the drops drop.

The Newman (not named for Alfred Newman, sadly) is available in a slew of versatile colors and features a chunky ribbed collar, cuffs, and hem, a relaxed fit, and some of the most beautiful textures that we’ve seen on a plain wool knit.

Available for $329 from Malloch’s.

You know and love RoToTo‘s socks, but wait ’til you try their Indigo Cotton Beanies, which appear to be just as solid (if not more) than their beloved foot sleeves. Japan’s RoToTo prides itself on making a quality accessory, and these 100% cotton cable knit beanies are a testament to that – it’s no surprise they make them each year.

A nicely chunky-knit beanie like this looks like it’d be a go-to when you need a comfortable and insulating layer to protect your head or simply an indigo-soaked cherry on top of your fit. Speaking of indigo, these things are inspired by the tones of indigo denim, both in its raw and faded states. Could there be a more fitting beanie for our niche?

Available for $78 from Franklin and Poe.

Oak Street Bootmakers has done it this time. Rolling out their Camp Boot in Brown Chromexcel, Natural Chromexcel, and Natural Chromexcel Reverse just as boot season makes its way onto the horizon, I think I’ve forgotten every boot I’ve ever owned or looked at. There is only this boot now. And if you aren’t struck by it just yet, you’ll see why very soon. But maybe that is the New England hometown pride talking. After all, this style is North East through and through, starting with OSB’s signature 555 last.

On one hand, you get this rugged hunting heritage that makes you want to break out the buffalo check-plaid and maybe even tuck in your pant bottoms in a field somewhere.  On the other hand, you have a dapper, casual to semi-casual boot that can instantly complement your existing wardrobe whether you’re city-clicking or answering nature’s calls. Well – not like not in the bathroom way. Unless, nevermind.

Made in the USA from a choice of Horween leathers with genuine handsewn construction throughout, each rendition of the Camp Boot sits on a Vibram 4014 Christy Sole to help you pound the pavement in style. And while my bias is evident in my gushing, I think that we can all agree that in a market where handsewn mocs can reach well over $700, Oak Street putting these out for under $450 is very welcome.

Available for $448 from Oak Street Bootmakers.
