Celebrate 25 Years of Left Field at Their LA Opening Party this Saturday

This Saturday marks the 25th anniversary of everyone’s favorite Ridgewood denim-slingers, Left Field NYC. Come out and celebrate at their recently opened Los Angeles store in Silver Lake, where there’ll be live music from The Killing Floors and The Sound Reasons, a Triptides DJ set, catering by Uncle Paulie’s Deli, beer they brought all the way from Queens from Finback, some local brews from Easy Rider, and, of course, the full Left Field collection on display.

It’s all free and it’s going down from 5pm – 9:30pm this Saturday, October 12 at 4220 W. Sunset Blvd.

We’ve known Christian and Jonny since first meeting them in New York in 2013 and their parties aren’t ones to miss. But even if you can’t make it on Saturday, be sure to check out their new beauty of a shop, easily spotted by their new custom neon sign.

Congrats on 25 years full of Greaser Jeans, Coal Miner Chinos, Dust Bowl Work Shirts, Tube Socks, and much more of some of the hardest work wear on the market. We’ll be out there celebrating with them, be sure to be there!

Opie Way Destroyed by Hurricane Helene – Fundraiser Organized by Hudson’s Hill

Revolutionary American footwear maker, Opie Way, has been catastrophically affected by hurricane Helene. A fundraiser has been started to help the brand rebuild, with other MiUSA brands like WiesMade and Hudson’s Hill rallying to financially support Opie Way.

It’s hard to comprehend the level of destruction caused by a hurricane when you haven’t experienced it for yourself. I’m typing this from England and feeling retrospectively guilty for moaning about the high wind levels in my coastal town. For me, hurricanes are a foreign affair, my experience of them limited to movies and news reports from the East. But having learned about Opie Way back in 2020 and watching the brand grow to enjoy collaborations with the likes of Raleigh Denim, Proximity Mfg. Co, and Hudson’s Hill, this one felt a little closer to home, rattling a hard-working independent, family-run American maker that served our niche with sneakers of the highest quality.

Something else that’s hard to comprehend is the sheer amount of work and commitment that goes into running a brand like Opie Way. Independently producing quality re-soleable sneakers by hand using old machinery from RnD to leather cutting and sewing,  running the e-commerce operation, all while wrestling with rising material costs and competing with mass producers. It’s a life’s work, and it’s cruel that Opie Way’s progress and achievements have been swept away in this manner.

Hurricane Helene has destroyed the Opie Way factory, located inside the Diamond Brand Gear facility in Cane Creek Industrial Park.  Cane Creek rose to historic levels, flooding the building upwards of 6′ inside, causing a total loss of their business. This family-run, family-owned business will have to recover from the loss of the machinery, the loss of the materials, and their employees that will have no place to work.

If you’re able to, consider donating to Opie Way’s rebuilding efforts, which are being coordinated by Evan Morrison of Hudson’s Hill.

Donation details and full information about how Opie Way has been affected can be found over on GoFundMe.

Fade Friday – Red Cloud Overall MFG Co. Lot. r424SP (1 Year, 1 Wash, 1 Soak)

25 oz. raw denim. Putting them on must be hard enough. Tolerating them for a day must be that much harder. Imagine wearing them solidly for over a year! That’s what Upcap over in Thailand has done with his Red Cloud MFG Co. jeans, earning him a spot in the Fade Friday rankings.

Upcap has worn these monsters everyday for as long as possible everyday throughout their 13 month tenure. However, he also mentions a valuable but often forgotten element of the fading equation: fun. Upcap stresses that he wore these jeans not (only) for the fades, but for the enjoyment: putting them on and breaking them in little by little. And break them in he did.

Thanks to a mere one wash and one soak and a whole load of wear, Upcap has achieved some extra crispy fades. Deep and defined creases form a shredded wear pattern that brings the extra-heavyweight denim to life. The whiskers shine bright as they span from the crotch all the way down to the knees. The honeycombs? We’ll let the pictures do the talking.

And just when you thought these fades could be a fluke, Upcap slaps you in the face by modeling an equally-epic pair of faded Samurais whilst exhibiting his Red Clouds. I have a feeling this isn’t the last we’ll see of him.

Iron Heart‘s 17oz. Duck Type L-2B Flight Jacket in Brown is the last flight jacket you’ll ever need. Seriously, Iron Heart makes stuff that lasts for life, and this heavy weight 17 oz. cotton duck fabric can take everyday wear for years and years, unless you’re breakdancing daily on broken glass. In which case…We can’t help you.

The stripped down L-2B jacket is simple, not overly heavy, and is as functional as you want a casual jacket to be. It’s equipped with a quilted poly-twill liner, welted dual hand warming pockets, a two-way YKK zipper on the front, dual interior ‘gun’ pockets with snap closures, heavy cotton twill pocket bags, heavy tubular knit and elasticated cuffs, hem, and collar, and a branded IH tag.

Of course, flight jackets were never made out of duck canvas, which means Iron Heart’s rugged take sits within a Venn diagram of menswear between militaria and vintage workwear — bait we are well and truly taking.

If you’re someone who likes to have just one or maybe two jackets in your rotation, Rogue Territory‘s Waxed Canvas Supply Jacket is one of those pieces that becomes your ol’ reliable.

Coming in Ridgeline Tan, Grey, Olive, and Black, the Supply Jacket combines details from just about every iconic men’s jacket from the last hundred years. It’s made from a mid-weight 10 oz. waxed canvas and features ‘D’ hand pockets, a single exterior chest pocket, a single interior chest pocket, a donut button closure w/pocket watch loop. So to recap, we have hunting jackets, waxed British jackets from the likes of Barbour and Belstaff, railroad engineer coveralls, and work jackets, all rolled into this Frankenstein’d creation. And it works – effortlessly.

Handmade in Los Angeles, this outerwear smorgasbord features a cropped cut and slim body and arms which defines your torso well while letting your pants tell a story of their own. Looking amazing right off the shelf, if you’re like us, your mind will wander right to how it will look in 6 months’ time…a year’s time…a decade’s time. Although the answer is obviously a resounding ‘pretty freaking cool’.

Summer might be winding down, but 3sixteen keeps heating up. Everyone needs a cozy sweater, and you could do far worse than this bouclé knit Cardigan from cult-favorite brand, 3sixteen. A quality cardigan like this can be worn down with a fun tee, beat-up jeans, and some slip-on shoes. Or, you can dress it up, professor style. Cardigans are super easy to wear. The fact that they look good while doing so is a major bonus.

This particular cardi is cut from a Peruvian-knit 89-11% Alpaca-Polyamide blend. A rough but comfy, highly textured-pack knit fabric, it offers instant texture whether worn as an outer piece or a layer. Coming in two versatile colorways, it’s cut with a classic V-neck silhouette and finished with tonal corozo nut fisheye buttons, and reinforcements at the neckline, cuffs, and hem.
