Fade Friday – The Flat Head 6000W (2 Years, 3 Washes, 2 Soaks)
Raw denim can easily become your second skin, and that’s exactly what happened with Mi and his The Flat Head 6000W denim jacket. Hailing from Ontario, Mi has worn his TFH Jacket whilst traveling all over the world, from Mexico to Japan and beyond. The results are some admirable fades, worthy of this week’s Fade Friday segment.
Two years of daily wear has led to a heavily faded jacket that really has that “lived-in” feel. The elbow honeycombs are the star of the show, but the patches and adornments Mi has added imbue even more character and give us insight into Mi’s personality. The back of the elbows have blown out even more since being repaired, so will need some further attention if Mi is to keep his jacket going. We certainly hope he can, but it looks badass regardless.

Wax on, wax off. Grant Stone is offering boot heads a tantalizing New Year’s patina project with its Garrison Waxed Burro Boots.
Seriously, the white wax coating on this vegetable-tanned leather from Conceria Walpier in Italy will chip away and scratch with each wear. So unlike your denim where 6 months pass and you realize you have started carving fades in, these will look different week by week, evolving from dirty white to a warm, honey-like color. This leather pairs perfectly with Grant Stone’s Garrison boot, which features a capped toe with ornate broguing that will mop up that glorious patina.
This release exhibits the kind of innovation we like to see from forward-thinking welted footwear brands like Grant Stone. What we’d also like to see is your pair of these in a year or so. Considering the character of this leather, we can almost guarantee a spot on our Fade Friday column.
Each pair is made by skilled craftspeople on Xiamen Island, China, using Goodyear welt construction that allows them to be re-soled whenever necessary. Details include a 270º flat welt with heel rand, full-grain kip leather lining, polished brass eyelets, vegetable-tanned leather insole, and steel shank — all sat upon a black micro stud rubber sole.
