Laptop Travel Sleeves

I spent years toting around an awful laptop case and I have to say, upgrading to an attractive, well-made sleeve for MacBook revolutionized my travel game. Your laptop can be protected and look good in the process, and a decent sleeve can even add more utility to your on-the-go profile.

There are thousands of choices out there, and they’re not all made equally, or indeed ethically. And while many of us already have a way to keep our laptops safe, maybe you just got a new one in a different size or want to switch things up—and that’s where this edition of Five Plus One comes in.

Bellroy makes a range of considered accessories for your carrying needs, and their 14″ Laptop Caddy seems to be the perfect place to kick off this list on laptop sleeves.

Made from a durable, water-resistant ‘Looma Weave’ fabric made from 100% recycled PET bottles, the Bellroy Laptop Caddy is eco-friendly and full of utility. Just looking at this thing makes me want to pack my desk into it and catch a train somewhere. It fits up to 14″ laptops with its padded sleeve, and has a fold-down front pocket for quick access, two mesh pen slips, and interior compartments for larger items. The zip is water-resistant, and there’s even an AirTag pocket for traceability.

Available for $79 from Huckberry.

You can always count on Blackthorn Leather to make rugged, small-batch leather craft editions of daily accessories. Luckily for this guide, one of the most recent editions to the Blackthorn roster is this Leather Macbook Air/Pro Sleeve.

Made in the USA by a single craftsman, the robust construction of Blackthorn’s Leather Laptop sleeve will allow you to use it for decades, carving in a patina formed by your various adventures. The Sleeve comes is a choice of Crazyhorse or Wickett & Craig Bridle leathers, each Sleeve comes fitted with a solid brass tuck lock to keep your laptop secure.

Available in 13″ and 15″ MacBook sizes which would undoubtedly fit other laptops, Blackthorn is also open to making custom sizes if required.

Available for $135 at Blackthorn Leather.

If stealth and minimalism are more your bag, Boundary Supply‘s Fieldspace Laptop Sleeve will probably be up your alley. Made for 13″ laptops, the Fieldspace is chock full of useful features: a protective Nywool™ sleeve, magnetic auto-closing flap, card clot for bank and business cards, YKK locking tab slide zips, a large carry handle, and pen slots for writing instruments or Apple Pencils.

What sets this Boundary Supply Sleeve apart, though, is the additional document sleeve that claims to keep documents wrinkle-free. That’s something many of us could benefit from, especially those of us who like an old-fashioned paper document.

Available for $52 from Urban Cred.

WP Standard‘s Leather Laptop Sleeve combines full grain leather with quilted interior lining, something that’s harder to find than you’d think. This offers the patina potential of a leather sleeve but with the heavier-duty protection of padding, making it more suitable for daily commuters or remote workers who take their laptops out a fair amount.

It’s made in a small leather crafting studio in Leon, Mexico, and comes with internal pockets for chargers, pens, wallets, and perhaps other pieces of tech. Available in 2 sizes and 4 different leather colors, there are few barriers to picking one of these up.

Available for $130 from WP Standard.

It’s a sleeve! It’s a bag! Nope, it’s DSPTCH‘s Laptop Sling. Feel free to sound off in the comments if you think this option is cheating, but I’m in awe of the utility on offer from DSPTCH’s Laptop Sling, especially this edition which is constructed from one of the world’s strongest fabrics – Dyneema.

The outside of DSPTCH’s Laptop Sling is constructed from 5 oz. Dyneema Composite, a fabric stronger than steel on a molecular level. If Tony Stark is carrying his laptop, it’s in this bad boy, for sure. Made entirely in the USA and coming with a lifetime guarantuee, the inside of this Laptop Sling is lined with Nylon Packcloth fabric and padded with closed-cell foam to keep your goods protected. The main compartment comes with a spacer mesh divider for a smaller tablet or notebook, whilst a quick access pocket made from Gridstop nylon provides three pen slots and a carabiner clip.

Best of all, the shoulder straps are quick-release, meaning you can carry this using the traditional carry handle or sling it over your shoulder while on the move.

Available for $154 from DSPTCH.

Call me an amateur but I’ve not seen a laptop sleeve like Orbitkey’s before. It’s a laptop sleeve and portable desk mat all in one, sleek package. If you’re someone who regularly sits on trains or works remotely from different places, this could be a way to bring that ‘desk’ feel to any workspace, especially if you use a mouse.

Coming in 14 and 16-inch sizes, the Orbitkey Laptop Sleeve is constructed from premium vegan leather with a recycled woven fabric lining. Magnetic closure means this is quick to set up and pack down, whilst the internal laptop pocket doubles as a mouse mat. It’s an innovative design, for sure.

Available for $80 from Urban Cred.

Responsibly hand-cut and hand-sewn goods just hit different. This is especially true for hats – a typically mass-produced product. And thanks to Bradley Mountain, you can get into an American-made Waxed Canvas Ball Cap for under $50.

The attention and consideration given to something so simple has us tipping our hats to Bradley Mountain in admiration. If you’re not familiar with BM, they’ve been sewing up high-quality canvas and leather goods in the USA for a long time. They make anything from backpacks, jackets, candles, and headwear, and they’ve recently begun nurturing their customer community with live events such as bingo and yoga at their Tennessee store.

These robust 10 oz. waxed canvas caps are more than good-looking, they’re a tool for keeping the elements away from your head, hair, and face. Available in a slew of waxed canvas colorways, each with a low-profile 5-panel design, the Camper features a snazzy (and thoughtfully designed) sewn-on label on the front, tonal harness leather adjustable back strap with brass hardware, all made in the USA.

The Barns Outfitters Relaxed Fit Indigo Cardigan is one of the most affordable loopwheeled knits we’ve ever seen. If staying cozy is your M.O., you’ll want to take a closer look at this 100% cotton indigo-dyed, concho-closure cardigan.

This loopwheeled cotton jersey fabric is knit in Wakayama, Japan at one of the few loopwheeling factories in the world. The end result is an extremely soft yet durable fabric, unlike anything you’ll find in the middle of the mall. Indigo-dyeing adds even more character, whilst giving the cardigan the ability to fade and develop with wear.

This cardigan is an extremely versatile piece, suitable to wear on its own with a nice tee, or worn between layers of your quality fabrics of choice. Setting this piece even further apart from its counterparts is the dual native American style concha closure on the front. Net you’ve never worn a cardigan with a closure quite like this, buttoning up and down has never been so beautiful.

Available for $80 from HAKU Clothing.
