Fade Friday – Iron Heart IH-777-XHSBB (4 Years, 8 Washes)

Stevie in West Virginia is bringing some exceptional Iron Heart 777-XHSBBs to the table and we’re here to unpack them for this edition of Fade Friday. Weighing in at a thigh-chafing 25 oz., these black-out jeans offer a nice break from the indigo wave gracing our inbox and we are 100% here for it.

From teaching art at a public school in Maryland and walking his dogs with his wife, to going on vacation in North Carolina and Delaware, these jeans were there each step of the way over the last 4 years. Through 8 machine washes and tons of hard-wear, these IHs have earned their stripes and shown their true colors, which include many, many shades of grey. Bursting with crease lines all over the place — including explosive whiskers and honeycombing — smokey undertones and hues create a dramatic if not mystifying effect.

But when all that smoke clears, there’s still some darker denim left for Stevie to work on, so we’d welcome an update when these hit the half-a-decade mark.

We’re a fan of all things indigo around these parts and we’ve seen it combined with nearly every other color of the rainbow, but rarely do we see something as eye-popping from the get go as Gustin’s new Japan Red Fire denim.

Featuring a cotton indigo warp and a poly red weft, these jeans start out dark with red highlights peeking through that will only start to burn brighter as you wear them. Indigo fades, but that red is there for life. The 12oz. Japanese milled selvedge denim is a great midweight candidate for year round wear and will be made in USA in all three of Gustin’s Straight, Slim, and Skinny fits.

Get in on this campaign now and you should have your Fires in hand to match the red colors of fall this October or November.

Available for $189 at Gustin.

Welcome to paradise with the Studio D’Artisan US Cotton Print “since 1979” T-Shirt. Leave it to SDA to continue making high-quality tees in Japan with graphics that keep us cackling, blending the imagery of pop culture landmarks with their playful pig branding. This time around, Green Day’s Dookie, a definitive touchpoint of ’90s American rock music that celebrates its 30th birthday this year.

The shirt takes inspiration from the nuclear blast depicted on the album’s cover, which has some implications for a Japanese brand…

Despite the Basket Case design, these are printed on some of the nicest T-shirt blanks you can find. 100% American cotton (hence the American flag on the hem) woven in Japan, with a vintage-inspired regular fit. SDA’s novelty tees don’t tend to get reprinted and they sell quickly, so grab one in your size while you can or you’ll be walking down the Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

Available for $51 from Hinoya.

Blundstone, move over, there’s a new rugged Chelsea boot in town, and this one is made in France. Kleman, the French manufacturer that’s primarily known for their budget version of Paraboot’s Tyrolean shoe has much more to offer.

The Tonnant Boot has a cemented lug sole (no welt) with an elastic entry like most Chelseas, but it has a sleeker silhouette that features a much more elegant toe box than the majority of other makers offering rugged pull on boots.

It’s made entirely in France with leather sourced from Spain, and at under $200, it’s an absolute bargain. You can find it in Chestnut, Cognac, and Black leather starting at €170 at Kleman.
