icebreaker’s Oasis 200 Baselayer is Your Winter Refuge

Look no further than icebreaker's oasis line for the best base layers this winter season for performance or everyday wear.

David Shuck

In the summer of 2022, I bought an icebreaker merino wool baselayer in Zermatt, Switzerland at the base of the Matterhorn. I was at the beginning of a marathon travel plan and had come ill-prepared for a high-altitude hike and I picked it up as an impulse buy because I knew hiking up 3,000 feet in a cotton tee would’ve been very unpleasant but took me a little longer to realize how essential an item it would be in my journey.

I hardly took the thing off over the next few months as I trekked in the Alps, Caucasus, and Himalayas; took overnight trains through Romania and Turkey; and slept in about 80 different beds. The merino wool kept me warm when it was cool, dry when it was hot, and didn’t reveal how little I had been able to bathe due to its natural odor resistance. It also kept it’s shape well after a dozen laundry cycles in a bathroom sink.

And I still have it. Yesterday, I wore it running in 40 degree weather. The Oasis 200 is icebreaker’s best selling baselayer, it’s made of 100% merino wool and I don’t know if I can give it any stronger of an endorsement as I’ve put it through the most demanding everyday and performance situations I’ve encountered.

Along with the crewneck I picked up, icebreaker’s Oasis 200 line comes a variety of silhouettes for men, women, and kids including leggings, half-zips, a full bodysuit, and many, many more.
