Fade Friday – Brave Star 14oz “Unfinished” Cone Mills Regular Taper (2 Years, 6 Washes, No Soaks)

Order in the court! That’s what they say when Rene, from New York, walks into his law school in his 14 oz. Cone Mills jeans from Brave Star Selvage. For 2 years and between 500-600 wears, Rene has worn these jeans bicycling 10 miles a day, five days a week to class in New York City, where they’ve been his good luck charm for his law exams.
Through roughly infinite crotch blowouts from all the saddle time and 6 washes, these jeans are looking quite experienced. Like, if these jeans were applying to law firms, they’d automatically make partner. There’s no hiding those washed-out whiskers, sunburst thighs, and those alluring oasis honeycombs. And the over-all bright blue hue? Forget about it.
But that’s enough out of me, its time to plead the—wait—which is it again?

Earth Studies and Heimat Textil remind us that sometimes the most, futuristic, sophisticated, and elegant garments and accessories draw inspiration from old-school designs and primitive materials. Their collaboration consisting of the Crew Sweater, Field Pant, and Adjustable Gaiter isn’t just an instant outfit but a timeless trio that adds depth and nuance to your wardrobe even if your gaitor, pant, and sweater departments are well stocked.
Going bottoms up, the co-conspirators’ rendition of the classic field pant draws dual inspiration from French workwear and old-school space suits. Harnessing a mid-weight cotton duck, they’re finished with a unique propeller button fly and a built-in web belt with aircraft aluminum hook closure. Moving on up to the knit, a 100% Merino wool body holds down the fisherman-leaning design while an unexpected bungee toggle helps regulate airflow the old-fashioned way. Rounding out this tech-spec tour is the 2-in-1 accessory which keeps the Merino wool train chugging full steam ahead. Thanks to a strategic bungee pull, this piece is a neck warmer when you need some jugular protection but cinches into a perfectly puckered watch cap when your noggin needs some closure.
Available from $95 at Heimat.
Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, The Small Faces, The Rolling Stones — the list of menswear icons who’ve donned chukka boots goes on and on. This isn’t surprising when you consider the simple elegance and versatility of a chukka. More refined than a work boot while retaining a rugged edge, a decent chukka can be easily paired with denim (raw or faded as hell), chinos, and even suit pants. It’s arguably the most versatile boot you can own.
Putting out some serious and radically affordable chukkas is Meermin with its 101468 boot. Coming in Brown and Snuff colorways — both made of Italian suede from Sciarada —Meermin’s sleek chukka has three-eye construction with a low cut shaft, and plain toe. The 101468 is built on Meermin’s Hiro last, too — a classic round last that sees this chukka fulfill the versatility I was harping on about a few sentences back. Whether you’re going business casual or vintage-eclectic, these fit the bill and then some.
Finished with full calf leather lining, a veg-tan leather insole, and a studded rubber outsole for traction, each pair is made in Shanghai using Goodyear welt construction that allows the boot to be recrafted or if required.
Available for $210 from Meermin.
We haven’t applied our ‘three tiers‘ guide formula to bags, but when we do there is no question that Bleu de Chauffe will be in the end tier. Based in the South of France, Bleu de Chauffe produces a of range heritage-centric bags and clothing that use only the finest materials, crafting processes, and proprietary silhouettes. Each bag is handmade from start to finish in their Aveyron workshop, signed by its maker, and delivered to you ready to be luggage for life. Sounds good, right? Wait until you see their SS25 lookbook.
This year, Bleu de Chauffe has opened up its roster with a sprawling new collection of bags that ranges from totes to fanny packs, half-moon bags, satchels, and beyond.
A clear highlight is the Meline Tote Bag, coming in a range of water-resistant waxed twill fabrics from British Millerain. We don’t need to tell you about the utility of a spacious tote bag, just that the BdC Meline is a really good one, and one that looks especially charming in that verdant tartan colorway. With vegetable-tanned leather edging and handles, and heavyweight cotton webbing shoulder straps, this could be the tote to end all totes.
Expanding on the use of British Millerain waxed twill are the Missak Aviator Bag and the Beat Belt Bag. The Missak is an aviator-style bag inspired by bag used by Hilt (played by the eminent Steve McQueen) in The Great Escape. Coming in three colorways, the Missak has more room than the Meline whilst still fitting in an airplane cabin. Shrinking things down, the Beat Bag is a fanny-pack style bag that blows away the fast fashion churn-outs with its heritage sensibilities. The waxed twill keeps water away while the veg-tan leather edging and zip pull convey quality at the very first glance. Want a full leather setup? It’s available in suede makeups, too.
Taking a more feminine stance whilst being suitable for any gender is the Margot Half-Moon Musette. Possibly one of the most underrated silhouettes in bagmaking, the half-moon makes for a flattering shape for all kinds of outfits. The Margot features nappy suede contrasted with smooth veg-tan leather on the edging, buckle, and strap.
While your surroundings may not be as beautiful as those in this latest Bleu de Chauffe’s lookbook, you can rest assured you’ll be carrying a piece of rural France around wherever you go with any of the beautiful bags featured here.
Head over to Bleu de Chauffe to see the full lookbook and shop their SS25 collection from $138.
Add a little texture to your life. Whether it be peanuts on ice cream, trail runs after work, or a curious new denim jacket, what could go wrong? Apart from nut allergies and getting lost in the woods, we can’t think of anything. After all Graph Zero‘s Type 2 Denim Jacket in Nep Yarn is pulling its weight and then some.
Modeled after early Levi’s denim jackets, most notably the Type 2 which featured two flap chest pockets and a pleated front, Graph Zero’s version mixes and matches, pulling in the highly sought-after ‘T’ back detail (seen on some Levi’s Type 1s) for all the top-tier denim nerds out there. Revising the pocket set up with smaller pouches and stitched with notably orange thread, it’s great to see a heritage-inspired jacket that isn’t worried about being the most historically accurate. A stance it confidently takes with its incredibly slubby texture. No – you aren’t looking at a Patty Deep Pile Fleece, this is all denim baby. Made on vintage power looms to match the nostalgic fades it will yield, this 15 oz topographical map of the denim world will give you that fuzzy feeling, literally, from your first wear.
Available for $277 from Private and Co.
Did ya hear? Skinner American Goods took a Japanese-milled, 100% cotton sashiko stitch reinforced fabric, and stitched it into the ever-amazing OG-107 military fatigue silhouette. Known for their pure functionality and ease of wear, these chopped fatigues are going to age a hell of a lot more interestingly than your standard OD green fare.
Constructed in the USA by one-mad-brand-man, Daniel Skinner, the fatigue shorts are tonally stitched with American threads, and feature Japanese YKK zipper front closure, Japanese-sourced black button closure, and a classic OG107 pattern with a key quality of life improvement — elastication on the back of the waistband to forgive just a bit of stretch around the belly line.
Just be mindful of the quantity of indigo dye packed into this fabric, don’t sit on Grandma’s white furniture. If the Uber driver turns up with white leather interiors, Fuhgeddaboudit.
Available for $165 from Skinner American Goods.
