Fade Friday – Tanner Goods Workman Wallet (9 Months)

When it comes to the Tanner Goods Workman Wallet, it always seems to live up to its name. Owned by Gregorio Mena of Texas, this leather wallet has seen its fair share of hard wear, and has the patina to prove it.

Nine months of daily use—ranging from office work, yard work, and house renovation—has done a number on what was once a light-colored vegetable-tanned leather outer. Now, a rich, nicely toasted shade of darker brown complete with marks and scratches earned on the day-to-day, this wallet has broken in beautifully while still holding onto some of its original color on the protected inner card slots.

And speaking of card slots, check out the heavy wear marks they transferred to the back side of the wallet! It’s like that saying about mullets: business up front and party in the back.

The Boca Long Sleeve Flannel is a staple in the Devium line-up. Made holistically in the USA like all Devium goods, it is cut from a 7 oz. yarn dyed 100% organic cotton flannel and comes in a slew of juicy colorways. But none of those colorways are as juicy as the latest — a cherry red and washed-out blue palette, aptly named 'Canned Jam'.

If your flannel game is in need of a refresh, this one is coming in hot just in time for your springtime frolics. Each piece is sewn in SF with double-needle stitching and finished with catseye buttons from PA.

Head over to Devium to check out the the Canned Jam Boca Shirt and much more.

Icarus flew too close to the sun but Sassafras‘s 13.5 oz Denim Fall Leaf Pants stop just shy of JNCO to achieve pocket perfection.

Featuring a regular straight fit and many hallmarks of your tried and true pair of 5-pocket or work denim, there are a few things you might not have expected with the Fall Leaf Pants. The first thing is the reinforced stitching around the waist which adds visual flair and greater durability. The second and most prominent detail is those huge front and back pockets. Forget phone key and wallet, we are scaling to telephone booth, front door, and mid-sized sedan with these pants.

With the utility and aesthetics of gardening garb front of mind, it’s easy to imagine some tools and gloves tucked safely away while your favorite clog keeps your feet dry, and chic. However, if the community plot is not up your alley, the de-facto futuristic design adds a refreshing note to any heritage-leaning look.

Available for $295 from Blue in Green.

Reproductions are great ‘n’ all but sometimes you want some classic workwear that also colors outside the lines a little bit. Enter Time Catcher, the Chinese label that does a bit of both. The A-2 Moleskin Bomber Jacket and Modified M-65 Salt Shrinkage Cotton Poplin Parka are two examples of how TC is taking military classics and updating them for a contemporary look, all while keeping the source material front of mind.

First up, let’s take a look at that A-2. Most famously produced in ‘seal brown’ horsehide’, the original A-2 is probably the most recognizable leather flight jacket of all time. The simple dual-pocket, point-collared design is a workwear triumph, and when you sub the leather for another material, it still looks epic. Such is the case with Time Catcher’s A-2, which they’ve rendered in an 11.8 oz. cotton moleskin and lengthened for a modern cut. Coming in a timeless earthy, brownish grey, the hefty moleskin that makes up the shell of the jacket is contrasted only by genuine horn buttons on the pockets and placket. Flip the cuffs or collar for flashes of brown corduroy lining.

Then there’s the Modified M-65 Salt Shrinkage Cotton Poplin Parka. The fishtail version of the M-65 has become a sought-after vintage military silhouette in recent years, but Time Catcher’s takes a different tack to the OGs. Featuring a shorter, less billowing silhouette than the original, Time Catcher’s Modified M-65 is also shorter in length and full of references to classic British outerwear from the likes of Burberry and Aquascutum. This is evident in the colorway of that awesome salt-shrunk poplin, the checked cotton lining, the wire-striped cotton sleeve lining from Bemberg Japan, and the corduroy lining seen at the cuffs and collar. All in all, it’s a unique piece that balances metropolitan elegance of mid-20th century England with the ruggedness of the fishtail M-65.

Both pieces are available at Olderbest for $66 (A-2) and $153 (Modified M-65)

It’s a new year, which is always a good time to inaugurate a new pair of jeans if needed. If you want to bust out of that raw denim box you’ve been living in, we’re officially endorsing the Pure Blue Japan Olive Sashiko denim collection as a worthy candidate for refreshing break-in.

PBJ makes great stuff, no question about it, painstakingly working with their partner fabric mills to create one-of-a-kind fabrics that meet their high standards. The two pairs of jeans featured in this collection are the brand’s ever-popular 019 fit (a relaxed tapered fit), and their criminally underrated 003 fit (a regular/slim straight jean), all you have to decide is how much fabric you want hugging your calves.

This spring-ready lightweight 12.5 oz sashiko stitch-reinforced denim has been sulfur-dyed a nice olive hue, similar to your trusty fatigues, but as comforting to wear as all your favorite 5-pocket jeans. They’re unsanforized, but pre-shrunk, so take them snug and let them relax a bit. They’re complete with PBJ’s iconic leaf embroidery (done up in a green Shoai edition for these special jeans), PBJ branded hardware, tonal stitching, lambskin leather patch, chain stitched hem & waistband, and all the potential for verdant sashiko fades. If you cop a pair, send us some progress pics in a year or so.

Available for $274 from Redcast Heritage.

3sixteen makes wearing high-quality denim easy, case in point is its new Vintage Wash Indigo Selvedge RS-100XV jeans. They’re the brand’s new relaxed straight (RS) cut, done in their iconic indigo selvedge denim but in a pre-washed form. They’re all broken in for you, no need to soak your jeans in the tub, or let them air dry to a starchy cardboard form to get them going.

These vintage wash jeans don’t feature a whole lot of whiskering, honeycombs, or other marks of high contrast fades for a reason: those fades might look a bit out of place since you and your body didn’t set them in place. These are a lot more subtle and focus on having an old-school worn-and-washed-to-death look — with roping and train tracks to boot. Not everyone wants comic strip fades or indeed to wear dark indigo denim, so these will certainly tick the box for heads looking for a high-quality pair of washed selvedge jeans.

Made in the USA, each pair features all the standard 5-pocket 3sixteen denim details that you know and love: Metal button fly, rivet reinforcements throughout, arcuate-less back pockets, contrast stitching, bar tacks, and a lovely 3sixteen roughout leather patch.

Available for $310 at Franklin and Poe.
