Fade Friday – Samurai Jeans S710XX (~2.5 Years, 4 Washes, 1 Soak)

Like its warrior namesake, Samurai Jeans is tough and resilient. This week’s Fade Friday is a pair of Samurai S710XXs sent in by Aji of Bandung, Indonesia, that have been worn for nearly two and a half years and prove why the Osaka-based brand is so popular in our niche.

This submission didn’t come with much information, but as usual with Samurai, the fades speak for themselves. The slubby texture of the denim is fully visible in areas of heavy wear, particularly in the thighs and seat. The honeycombing and whiskering contrast heavily with the remaining dark denim, of which there is still a great deal. The knees have taken some abuse, but otherwise, there doesn’t seem to be a need for repairs anytime soon. And for that reason, we would definitely be down to see an update from our boy in Bandung.

When it comes to old school-inspired work shirts, there are an overwhelming number of options. Many of which take themselves very, very seriously. Like stitch for stitch serious. Which we love, don’t get us wrong. But sometimes it feels like they are so intense that you need to build up a whole new period-correct wardrobe to support it. This is what GUSTIN got so right with their 139 Big Sky Workshirt, which features many of the bells and whistles people go crazy for—triple-stitched construction, side gussets, chain stitch run-off—all whipped up in a more casual package.

With its contrast stitching and sky blue 13.5 oz fabric, there is a tasteful 1970s influence going on, which is honestly a sight for raw-indigo-sore eyes. Closed out with custom Corozo buttons and coming in a classic slim fit, your new all-purpose shirt awaits. Made in the USA and available at a very tempting price if you back the crowdfunding campaign.

Available for $126 from GUSTIN.
