Fade Friday – Samurai Jeans S5000VX 15th Anniversary 25oz. (14 Months, 1 Wash, 2 Soaks)

The year mark is where jeans usually start developing their fades, but if you’re in Southeast Asia, 365 days is enough to carve in all sorts of fade craters in your raw denim.

Reader Tharapong of Thailand has graciously sent us photos of this lovely pair of Samurai Jeans S5000VX 15th Anniversary 25oz. These heavyweights have seen just over a year of wear with one sea wash, which has produced some dreamy stuff for those who love high-contrast jeans. Honeycombs don’t get much bigger or more sharply defined than this, folks. The subtle stacking over the monster cuffs isn’t too shabby either, and there’s even a Zippo fade in the coin pocket for good measure. Can these continue going? We certainly hope so.

We won’t make you guess what Sullivan Glove Co. is best known for, but they also definitely know how to make an excellent pair of slippers. Made from a 2.5-3oz deerskin, their Thurlow Slippers might just be the best-made thing to throw on ’round the house.
Like all of Sullivan Glove Co.’s products, gloves or otherwise, the Thurlows are hand cut and sewn to order in the brand’s workshop in Bend, Oregon. Here, they’re crafted from a buttery soft American deerskin leather with a distinct grain, so soft that they’ll feel right at home the first time you slip them on. All of Sullivan’s leathers come from natural hides, which may contain scarring or other natural marks in the hide, so each pair of slippers is entirely unique.
To add to that luxurious comfort, the slippers are constructed around a memory foam insole that will conform to your feet. It will be really hard to take these off to go outside — but we also really wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t.
Available for $122 from Sullivan Glove Co.
Even with temps dropping, we warm-blooded creatures can find comfort in drawing for the right outerwear for the transition. Thick, unlined pieces like overshirts and chore coats are always high on the hit list, and Canada’s HAVEN has produced a compelling rendition of the latter with its Moleskin Graft Coat.
Made from organic cotton, this Japanese moleskin fabric has a buttery soft bordering-on-suede hand feel and natural wind resistance for those brisk mornings and chilly nights. Riffing on a classic chore coat design, this jacket is a departure from the classic and arguably overplayed hydrone blue ones you see, thanks to details like angular welted hand pockets, a cheeky little welt pocket, and custom shank buttons throughout.
Made in Canada and closed out with underarm gussets and articulated sleeves, this work jacket is made to layer, so it will still have a place as part of your sub-zero layering ensembles come January.
Available for $415 from HAVEN.
