Fade Friday – RRL Straight Fit Selvedge (3.5 Years, 1 Wash, 3 Soaks)

Fade Friday? More like Fate Friday – I’ve been eyeing a pair of RRL Straight Cuts for a while now, and now I think I might be sold. This miraculous pair comes to us from Paymon in San Francisco, who clearly doesn’t mess around. For the last three-and-a-half years, Paymon has done it all in these jeans, holding nothing back and surrendering them to the shred.
Helped by one wash and three soaks along the way, these jeans have developed a charming vintage look with an authentic mix of washed-out and high-contrast fading. The top block and knees have seen some heavy dye loss, leaving a perfectly dirty, yellowy-green hue. The back of these RRLs is home to a pair of wavy honeycombs that serve as a focal point for this epic fade. However, the most impressive aspect of these jeans is the rugged patina that has developed in the form of rips, scuffs, and general damages from daily abuse. They have been left to decay (in the best sense possible) and repaired only when absolutely necessary, leading to a perfectly tattered and distressed appearance.

You may know Bleu de Chauffe for its bags, but you best believe their offering is expanding by the week. The brand has dropped tees, sweaters, and jackets of the highest quality in the last couple of years, but today we’re looking at their roster of unique and responsibly-made belts.
Bleu de Chauffe’s rage of belts is underpinned by three core styles: the Manille, the Manchette, and the Cliquet. Each style has a different inspiration, but every belt is hand-crafted in France using high-quality, chrome-free, vegetable-tanned leather and suede.
The Manille is a workwear-inspired belt with a 35mm wide strap. Coming in black, natural, and pain brule aka ‘burnt bread’, the best thing about the Manille is its buckle. Made from nickel-coated brass, this rustic buckle is inspired by boat shackles with its pins and lugs. More charm is added with engraved Bleu de Chauffe branding on the rim.
The Manchette is another workwear-inspired style, but with a more ornate buckle inspired by curved metal wires. Coming in slightly slimmer than the Manille at 32mm, the Manchette is slightly daintier but still rugged as hell. It’s available in the same trio of vegetable-tanned leathers as the Manille, but with a brass-colored branded buckle.
Last but not least is the Cliquet, Bleu de Chauffe’s woven belt style. This silhouette blends woven belts seen threading through linen belt loops on the Côte d’Azur with the ruggedness of the tool shed. The woven strap is slim-ish at 32mm but the buckle is inspired by ratchet straps you’d usually find in a garage. The result is a woven belt you can pair with pretty much anything, from work pants to suit trousers and everything in between. Full leather versions of the Cliquet come in brown, black, and burnt bread, while suede options come in brown, black, and honey.
Each Bleu de Chauffe belt offers something different, which is what we’ve come to expect from the French label — well-crafted, elevated staples with their unique touch.

Shell Cordovans are expensive, right? Like, $1k expensive? Well, usually, but Meermin is looking to change the heritage-quality footwear market with a direct-to-consumer model that cuts out unnecessary expenses to keep their footwear “radically affordable”. It seems to working, too, with the brand’s 501040 Shell Cordovan Loafer available all year round for just $310.
Meermin has offered up this loafer on a limited pre-order basis a few times, but the demand has been so great they’ve made it an evergreen option in their lineup of welted footwear. Made from an exclusive Burgundy Heritage Shell Cordovan, it’s easy to see why folks have been snapping up these classic Penny Loafers. Meermin has built them on their relaxed-fitting SWAY last, which results in a Loafer with a roomier toe box and shorter vamp, true to a range of original examples from the golden era of Ivy League fashion.
Each pair is handmade in Mallorca, using Goodyear welt construction for easy resoling. Steel shanks and natural cork filler provide solid support and stability for daily wear, while horsehide lining and leather insoles, welts, and heel stacks ensure you’ll develop a gorgeous patina inside and out.
Timeless style & heritage quality – all without spending too many pennies.
Available at Meermin for $310.
This Faiz T.S. & Co. Handknit Cowichan Bomber Sweater is so good. If a cozy, incredibly easy-to-wear sweater like this isn’t on the top of your Christmas list, it’s time to take a long hard look in the wardrobe. What’s not to love about a zipper-front cowichan style sweater, hand-stinking-loomed by one single craftsperson in Canada? The personal touch really comes across in the texturing and overall finishing of the sweater – best of luck asking Granny to knit you one of these before the presents get ripped open this year.
Knit from heavy, 100% virgin wool yarns, these true blues are undoubtedly going to fade over time. Each knit comes complete with a two-way YKK zippered front placket, dual hand-warming pockets at the front with an insane braided ribbing detail, ribbed cuffs and hem, and a Faiz T.S. & Co. neck label.
Available for $475 from Huckberry.
Naked & Famous reminds us they can still kick it old school with the made in Japan 12 Aomidori Selvedge Heritage Denim Jacket. But even within the art of reproducing an integral piece of workwear history, you’d be dead wrong if you thought N&F wouldn’t add their own spin on things.
Taking after the short-lived Type II Trucker Jacket, all the signifiers are there – from the front pleats and the cropped fit to the quintessential 2-pocket design. And with its rigid, 16 oz. selvedge denim — woven in Okayama on vintage shuttle looms — it almost looks like an original example lost to the sands of time. However, with wear, this deep indigo selvedge will reveal itself as an innovator of its own through glimmers of green. It’s been subject to a ‘bottom dye’ technique, where a green tint is applied before the indigo rope-dyeing process, resulting in a covert Naked & Famous twist that will reveal itself as the denim fades.
Although the denim is unsanforized, it has undergone a ‘tempi’ process to carefully shrink the fabric — so you can stress less about sizing and enjoy the integrity of a well-made garment suited for everyday wear.
Each jacket is made in Japan and comes with an embroidered maple leaf signifying Naked & Famous’ Canadian heritage and iron buttons that will develop patina with wear and washing.
Available for $472 from Blue Beach Denim.
